🌴Palm Sunday, 🍷🍞Maundy Thursday, ✝Good Friday, ✝Resurrection Sunday.
Each day/event is worthy of serious examination and prayers of thanksgiving for all that transpired.
Today I am not delivering a sermon. It’s just a post.
The focus is upon two words: broken verses given.
When Pastors/Priests say the Words of Institution, most say “This is my body, broken for you.” The Presbyterian liturgy (and others) instructs us to say, “This is my body given for you.” The focus of the word “broken” is the cruelty of the Romans and the pain of Jesus. It is what the Romans did to Jesus.
The focus of the word “given” is the grace and love that Jesus extends to you. He chose the path to the cross in obedience to his Father’s will. Focusing on “broken” makes me cry. 😢
Focusing on “given” makes me experience the awe and wonder of grace – unearned blessings 🙏 freely given to another. Give it some thought and see if focusing on “given” doesn’t cause your heart to well up in gratitude 🙌 .
